  1. The Foundation Series - Vyayamas is a four-session course taught on a continual rotating basis. Please refer to the "Workshops" page for the dates.

  2. These courses are taught over a multiple class format. Please follow the links to see the specific dates, cost, and registration / drop-in policy, as well as any prerequisites that apply. These courses must be paid for separately - class packages do not apply. For general information about our Training Program click here.

  3. Qigong, Taiji Form, and partnered exercises. Contact Jan Diepersloot for fee information and program details (925)906-9534. Yoga class packages do no apply to this class.

  4. "Sacred Sundays" Restorative & Meditation class meets once per month, on the following dates for Spring 2008: April 13, May 18, June 8

  5. From March 22 thru May 10 the Foundation Series - Pratigna Course will meet from 9:45-11am on Saturdays. Drop-in classes will be held on May 17, 24, & 31. Then, on June 7, 14, 21, & 28, the Foundations of Pranayama Series will meet. Please see the workshop description for full details and drop-in policy.

New students can begin with our "Foundations" or "Stiff Bodies/ Basics" drop-in classes, or any of the Four Foundations Series.

The Drop-in classes can be joined at any time and are appropriate for people with no yoga experience as well as continuing students. Just show up.

The Four Foundation Series are offered frequently and are by preregistration.


 
 
 
Come with an empty stomach (allow at least 3 hours after a meal - more time is even better).

Please do not wear any scents or perfumes.

Classes begin on time, so please arrive early to settle in.

Be sure to turn your cell phone off, or better yet, leave it in the car.

Mats and props are provided by the studio, but it is best to acquire your own yoga mat. We have them for sale at the Shala.

Please inform the instructor of any injuries or health problems prior to the start of class.


 
  DESCRIPTION
OF CLASSES & COURSES
 

Foundations - Level 1-2 (Drop-in Classes)
- for all new students and continuing beginners. These classes build a solid foundation in mind and body through working the preparatory stances and seats, primary asanas, and basic breath work. Bandhas are introduced. Prepares the student to learn the Shadow Yoga Prelude forms.

Restorative & Meditation (Drop-in class) - a relaxation based class utilizing supported postures for deep rest and rejuvenation. Some guided meditation is also included. For all students with minimum of 6 months experience in the Foundations classes. Meets one Sunday per month. Check schedule for dates.

Yoga for Stiff Bodies / Basics (Drop-in class) - a preparatory class to designed to open the joints and muscles and teach the basics. Designed for those who want a gradual lead-in for our regular beginner / foundations level 1-2 classes.

Foundations of Yoga Program (Pre-registration Courses) - we teach four Foundation Series on a continual rotating basis. These meet weekly from 4 - 10 sessions and are by pre-registration. Please see the Foundations of Yoga for full details, and check the workshops page for our current offerings

Shadow Yoga Forms (Pre-registration Courses) - We teacher two Introductory Forms and three Prelude Forms. These are taught in multisession courses. Please refer to the Training Program link for a full description and the Workshops page for a list of current offerings

Individualized Asana (Pre-registration Courses) - in these courses each student's practice is individualized for their unique needs with the instructor providing hands-on adjustment through the marma system. Knowledge of one of the Shadow forms is required. This is the traditional way of learning asana and brings faster progress than is possible in a general group setting. Please refer to the Training Program link for a full description.

Special Focus Courses (Pre-registration Courses) - Various courses for beginner through advanced students focusing on pranayama, meditation, asana, philosophy and other topics are offered throughout the year. Please refer to the Training Program link for a full description and the Workshops page for a list of current offerings

Chinese Internal Arts - Qigong, Taiji Form, and partnered exercises.

Zen-based Meditation - join Michael McAlister and the Infinite Smile Sangha for an evening of Zen-based meditation and Dharma talk with discussion.

  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION  

On Full and New Moon days
all classes in the Hatha Yoga Program will emphasize restorative and meditative practice.

Spring 2008 dates are: April 6 & 20, May 5 & 20, June 3 & 20
