Founded in 1997 by Mark Horner, Moksha Yoga Shala offers a comprehensive training program in Shadow Style of Hatha Yoga, with additional inspiration coming from the teachings of Dona Holleman, as well as Krishnamacharya, the yoga master whose students spawned the Iyengar and Ashtanga Vinyasa styles.

We also have classes in the Chinese Internal Arts and Zen-Based Meditation, as well as our "Yoga for Stiff Bodies" classes which make yoga accessible for those who need a preparatory class.

What students will find at our Yoga Shala is a quality and depth of teaching and practice that remains true to the traditional methods of Hatha Yoga while simultaneously addressing the needs and demands of modern life.
ABOUT SHADOW YOGA
Shadow Yoga, as developed by Zhander Remete, makes use of the methods and practices common to classical Hatha Yoga and the internal martial arts. The Shadow Yoga Prelude forms are flowing and dynamic, incorporating circular and spiraling movements, warrior stances, and the well-known sun salutation in order to bring about significant changes in flexiblity, strength, and inner firmness.

Emphasis is placed on building the Kanda Shakti (vital power) and Jathar Agni (digestive fire). Classical Hatha Yoga views the increase and balancing of these energies as instrumental to good health as well as personal transformation.

The term "Shadow" refers to the different layers, or bodies of the human being (physical, energetic, mental, emotional, spiritual, etc.) Shadow yoga works to clear obstructions and heal imbalances in these layers, or shadows. This brings about an increase in sensitivity, clarity, and self-awareness which helps to awaken the light of discriminitive knowledge.

Our weekly Foundations classes and Intro to Shadow Yoga Courses prepare the student to learn the Prelude forms which are taught in pre-registration courses.   Once a Prelude has been learned the Individualized Asana courses will adjust the practice for the unique needs of each individual. As the student gains in stability, practices of pranayama, mudras, concentration & meditation are added.

We also offer one of the most comprehensive and highly regarded Advanced Studies / Teacher Training Programs in the area. For more info go here: Training Program
